Hi I’m Vocal Coach Dylan
welcome to my website…
OK So don’t let the faces put you off, as Gloria Gaynor once sang “I am what I am and what I am needs no excuses.
All joking aside I am very serious about the voice I have spent a life time learning and perfecting my craft and am passionate in teaching you those skills that I teach to all my students with great success!
So lets start at the beginning what I teach I still have not seen any other vocal coach teach on the internet. When you start to learn with me you will feel like at last all your questions are being answered not more confusion and as most of my students say, they knew that something was not right and there teachers for that fact. Well I have the answers that you need to unlock that unique amazing voice of yours, but it is not easy and it takes time and soul searching which not all of my students are prepared to do and some leave (which is a real shame)…wait a minute aren’t I going to tell you that I have a quick fix that will make you amazing, some special one vocalize that will turn you into an amazing singer, no because I would be lying to you, the truth is it will take effort on your part but the results are worth it… I promise, you just have to be ready to challenge yourself.
From what I have seen there are many methods out there that are good and work. Which on is right for you depends on where you are on your vocal journey.
What makes me different from other vocal coaches?
What makes me different from other vocal coaches is that I really know your voice because I really know mine. Let me explain…
Jumping up and down in a club one night, screaming at the top of my lungs along to Nirvana “Smells like Teen Spirit”. I had a drink – or two! and thought that I was vocally invincible and why wouldn’t I after all I’d been singing from the age of 8, and my voice had always been there whenever I needed it. So I carried on screaming out at the top of my lungs no warm up, after all warming up your voice is not for the cool kids!
The next day I woke up with a hangover, I promised myself that I would never do that again! lol the phone rang, it was my friend from the night out to see how I was, so I started to speak. Imagine the distress I felt as I was talking and my voice cracked up and suddenly disappeared, I was trying to talk but nothing came out and there was a bloody taste in my mouth. I had damaged my vocals.
I spent the next six months mute as I didn’t know what to do with my voice. Every time I opened my mouth, nothing came out and it hurt. I was on the NHS waiting list and had to wait six months; by this time trying to talk felt very strange and was slurry. I was given an exercise to do, that helped but I was still not able to sing, and my range was now a maximum of a fifth! I was told not to worry about the singing voice and just to be happy about the fact that the talking voice was back – if you could call it that (oh my vocal range is now over 5 octaves!). I could talk for around a couple of minutes at best, and I had been doing the exercises diligently every day about ten times, with good form for a good while now. I was not happy with the progress, so I decided it was time to take control. The journey I went on was a journey of vocal discovery, using my very delicate voice and my hyper aware kinaesthetic sense to start to piece together the exercises and techniques that are out there and work out which ones really worked and which didn’t.
This has given me an invaluable insight into the voice that I really believe few vocal coaches ever get. This vocal journey I went on I want to spare you going through. You will learn from my experience, without the pain! So I became a vocal coach, as I felt there were many out there who just teach parrot fashion – of course there are other great vocal coaches out there too – but knowing which are the good ones and which are the bad ones can sometimes cost you your voice! I will teach you how to safely use your voice, so that you can sing every day until you are old and grey!
So there is my silver lining that I want to share with you, I have a deep awareness of the voice that I feel few vocal coaches have, which makes it impossible to get it wrong with your voice.
